BCS National Championship

It was the day: the day when the two best teams in the nation fight to death against each other… the day when my favorite team would lie down… victoriously.

Today was a Monday, but luckily, we didn’t have school that day. So, I was invited to a friend’s house to watch the game. While I was there, we played basketball down on his sport court with a bunch of eighth graders. It was tough, but we managed to hang with them.

Finally, the game was on. We all gathered up in the big TV room and began to watch. The game didn’t start out well for me, at halftime, Auburn was up by a lot, almost too much, but not for Florida State. In the second half, Florida State came out with a bang. Auburn still scored, but FSU went into the fourth quarter with momentum. With 2 minutes to go, FSU scored a touchdown to take the lead: 27-24. Auburn came back to score with less than a minute left: 31-27. FSU had decent return to start them out around the 30 yard-line. I was 3rd & 10 and Winston hit one of his receivers on a curl route for a 50 yard gain. Then, with about 10 seconds left, Winston hit Benjamin for a TOUCHDOWN. FSU WINS.

Where I’m From…

I am from the old, rusty, wooden dinner table

From dead crickets in the attic to urine stains on the curtains

I am from the creepy, aged house at the end of the block that feels like you’re in the house of torment

I am from the fresh peach trees my dad planted from months ago

The stacks of branches whose fallen off leaves were like fingers and toes to me

I’m from marshmallow sweet potatoes and competing with my aggie cousins on Texas – Texas A&M game day

From Charlie, my Chihuahua-terrier mix and Lila, my pet hamster

I’m from buying pounds and pounds of peanuts before Texas demolishes their next opponent and the constant commotion of my sister arguing with my parents

I’m from, “rock-a-by baby,” and “go to sleep!”

and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”

I’m from going to California Pizza Kitchen on someone’s birthday

I’m from the good ole’ Austin, Texas

Fresh cantaloupes and greasy cheeseburgers

From my uncle fighting in the Marines at Iraq when many of his friends passed away
The memorable photo books hidden in the dusty cabinet under all of the boxes, in the corner of the garage… and stuck in my soul

Place

My favorite room in our house would have to be my “game room.” Mostly because of my Xbox 360, but that’s not all.

There is the sweet aroma of all the empty candy wrappers hidden under the couch cushions. The sight of my dog’s urine stains from years ago. Also, the sound of my sister pounding the wall because she had just lost a match of Yahtzee on her iPad. Even the feeling of adrenaline rushing through my body like water rushing down a stream when I’m about to score a game-winning touchdown in NCAA Football 14. Finally, the feeling of my sweat dripping down the smooth, white Xbox controller.

Ohhh, the game room, it will be remembered forever.

Basketball Tryouts

On Thursday and Friday I had basketball tryouts for West Ridge. There were about 75 kids trying out and only 25 make the “25-man roster.”

On Thursday, most of the time we did stations, which are boring, but coaches said that the station stats are pretty much the tiebreaker. My first station was the “free throw” station with coach Franco. I made 3 of my 5 free throws, which is pretty good. Next, I was headed to the outside shots station with coach Bailey. In that drill I only made 2 out of 6, but that’s still ok. I did 3 other drills, but they’re pretty boring, so no need to talk about them.

On Friday, it was all scrimmaging. Everybody was split up into about 7 teams. I was on a good team and we won every game. On my team was: Grant Andruss, Malone Drewett, Micah Stringfield, and Brock McKelvey. There were other teams that were better than us, but we didn’t play against everyone. After that practice I felt pretty good about my chances on making the team.

Finally, after the final bell rang, I sprinted down the hall into the gym, and there it was the roster of 25 people and my name was representing the “P” section. I was very proud of myself and happy to not having to be in off season.

“Never Again”

In the winter of 2010 my parents surprised my sister and I with a trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. I was in complete shock when I found that out. Even better we got to stay in the Swan Hotel, which is a hotel inside the Disney world complex, and we had a FastPass for all of the rides, which allows you to pretty much get into a shorter line.

We would leave on the 28th and get their later that day. When we got there we settled in our hotel and then we were off to Epcot Studios. There we rode the fastest ride in Disney world, Test Track. In test track, you get in a car and go through all these test then finally you get to go on the track. It sounds boring, but it’s actually pretty fun.

I know you’re wondering why this is a “never again” moment. Well, at Disney MGM Studios had a ride named, Rockin’ Rollercoaster. In the Rockin’ Rollercoaster it is pitch black with Aerosmith blasting in your ear. The Rollercoaster went from 0-60 mph in about 2.8 seconds, which makes it the second fastest ride in Disney world Orlando behind test track. My parents were begging me to do the ride. I didn’t know that it was going to go that fast and have loops which I hate. Eventually they got me to do it and I definitely regretted it and like it at the same time. Even though I kind of like it, I was never doing that again, it scared me to death.

House of Torment

The House of Torment is one of the most horrifying events I’ve ever been to. I went twice last year, but the most recent time was last Sunday. There are three houses and in my opinion the first one is the scariest and longest. Most of the scarers are just teens who get lots of makeup, but there are some props like a giant snake mouth that comes towards you. The scariest monsters have to be the ones with a chainsaw chasing after you. My group was Grayson, Blake, Jack, Lauren, and Madison. We rode one of my friends buses that is green with orange flames along the side. Everyone was scared out of their mind, but since I’ve gone before I wasn’t as scared thankfully. Have y’all ever been to the House of Torment?

Prepositional Poem

Joseph and I wrote this prepositional poem:

Across the rubbery turf
The opposing team beside me
The first whistle coming near
With the crowd booming
Despite their rasping voices
Outside, in the intense heat
The men in black and white taking the field
Football’s on it’s way
Here comes the boom under the stadium lights!

Westlake Pit

Two Words: CRAZY PEOPLE!!  Every Westlake football home game all of the Hill Country and West Ridge Middle Schoolers go to the “pit” to watch the game, meet with friends, and pig out. I usually sit on the bleachers, talk, and watch Westlake smother the opposing team. I usually try to attend every game. It’s my favorite thing to do school related. What is your favorite thing to do in school?
